- Protect company data: ask your employees to think twice about sharing sensitive information about your company. This includes responding to an email request from an unknown person, answering questions during an unsolicited phone call, or even sharing a photo on social media that shows a whiteboard or computer screen in the background.
- Don’t click on suspicious links or pop ups: clicking a seemingly legitimate link and then entering sensitive information is the #1 way that hackers are able to infiltrate business systems. If your employee is unsure about the legitimacy of an email or other communication, ask them to always check with your IT department or IT partner.
- Practice strong password security: encourage your employees to create passwords that are longer than 8 characters in length, that don’t include anything personally identifiable, and that feature uppercase and lowercase letters, symbols and numbers. No password should be used for more than one login.
- Don’t use unsecured Wi-Fi networks: any sensitive information sent over an unsecured network can be intercepted. To avoid this risk, educate your employees on how to recognize the difference between a secure and unsecured Wi-Fi network.
- Perform updates and backups as instructed: regular updates keep your business safe from vulnerabilities that can be caused by outdated software and operating systems, and a backup means you can quickly restore your data in case of disaster.
